MP visits Scouts

Diane Abbott MP visits East London Scouts

Scouts from the 12th Hackney were delighted when Diane Abbott agreed to help them with part of The Community Challenge. The MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington took time from her busy schedule to jump on the bus from Westminster and make her way to the Groups headquarters in Stamford Hill, London.

There she spent an hour with the Scouts as she explained to them what her job involved and answered questions about her role in Government. The Scouts learned about what an MP does in the Commons and how Ms. Abbott became an MP. They also got the chance to ask her about what she did before becoming an MP and what she hopes to do once she has finished being an MP.

Ms. Abbott had some questions for the Scouts too. One of her questions to the Scouts was 'What do you enjoy about Scouts?' The main reply........ Summer Camp! Ms. Abbott thanked the leaders of the Group for the time that they give up for the young people in Hackney. The Scouts were really pleased when she told them that she would be organising an evening visit for them to the House of Commons in the not too distant future.

As a thank you to Ms. Abbott for coming along, the Scouts presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a Group Scarf which she says she would be wearing on the 'This Week' programme on BBC1.
