Party in the Park 2002
This years annual Venture Scout "Party in the Park," was considered to have been a great success by all those who attended it. Over the two days well over one hundred Venture Scouts from practically every district in the County shared in the thrills of Go-Kart racing during the day and then let their hair down at the "Party" on Saturday night.
The Go-Carting was extremely well organised by a team from Lincolnshire Scout Network who somehow managed to keep the cars in action for most of the time, on both sessions, despite the efforts of some drivers who seemed to think that the best method of overtaking was to go over the top of the car in front, instead of round it. One driver even managed to get five tyres on his car, instead of the usual four, but this proved not to be the best way of improving his speed.
With Annette Bacon organising the running order of the races everything seemed to go without a hitch, and every one, who wanted to, got at least their allotted six races each day and to hear people talk, between races, about their cornering and overtaking skills, we must have at least a dozen drivers who think they could give Michael Schumacher a run for his money. Racing on the Saturday was followed by a B-B-Q, which in turn was followed by the "Party" in the marquee with our usual D.J. Martin providing the music. Sunday morning was back to the thrills and spills of racing again, for those who didn't feel too shaken and bruised by the previous days events.
Our thanks to Neal and his team from Lincolnshire, Sally Brewster and her team for the B-B-Q, and Nettie for keeping the racing going.
